Job description
Department Overview - Product Data Science (PDS) team is made up of data scientists, data and visual engineers, and growth analysts who are dedicated to driving product strategy with data-driven insights. The PDS team works with executives, product managers, designers, developers, user researchers, marketers, and sales strategy team members across all Cloud businesses to discover new opportunities for growth and optimization, experiment with data, drive adoption, and provide actionable insights that impact product strategy.
Role Description
The Big Data Engineer position will be responsible for designing, developing & maintaining all parts of the data pipeline for statistical and machine learning computations, prescriptive, descriptive reports & dashboards requirements. This role involves making an impact by driving continuous improvements in moving, aggregating, profiling, sampling, testing and analyzing terabytes of data.
The engineer will work closely with various functional groups on projects involving data discovery, assessing data samples, massaging and preparing data for hypothesis testing and machine learning algorithms.
Responsibilities
- Build data pipelines using Oracle, Hadoop, Pig, Hive, HBase, Spark, and Salesforce API.
- Identify incomplete data, improve quality of data, and integrate data from several data sources.
- Design and develop tailored data structures in database and Hadoop.
- Query Hadoop/Hive and Oracle EDW to provide data-sets for data scientists.
- Program data movement, harmonization, integration & loading workloads in system relevant programming language like Java, Python,etc. and utilize big data tools like Talend, Informatica, etc.
- Quickly create functioning ETL prototypes to address quickly changing business needs.
- Revamp prototypes to create production-ready data flows.
- Support Data Science research by designing, developing, and maintaining all parts of the Big Data pipeline for reporting, statistical and machine learning, and computational requirements.
- Perform data profiling, complex sampling, statistical testing, and testing of reliability on data.
- Endorse open source tools & techniques in development, management, and release process, utilizing in-house software effectively.
- Harness operational excellence & continuous improvement with a can do attitude.
Job Requirements
- BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Operations Research, Econometrics, or equivalent/related degree.
- 4+ years of ETL experience using SQL, Shell Scripting and Python
- 2+ years of development experience using Big data technologies including Hadoop, Pig, Hive, HBase, Spark.
- Experience developing with big data tools like Talend, Informatica, etc. is preferred.
- 2+ years of development experience using Java for data processing.
- Very strong skills working with very large data sets with a variety of tools; experience in dealing with performance and scaling issues.
- Ability to work effectively in an unstructured and fast-paced environment both independently and in a team setting, with a high degree of self-management with clear communication and commitment to delivery timelines.
- Expert knowledge of Oracle SQL, including building stored procedures.
- Expert knowledge of Hadoop, particularly Hive and Pig.
- SQL & Hive performance tuning including the ability to interpret explain plans and perform tuning.
- Familiarity in building a layered architecture database with multi stage tables for several kinds of business analytics.
- Familiarity with Scrum/Agile project management methodologies and SDLC stages.
- Familiarity with Salesforce data model and APIs to extract and load data.
- Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks in a highly dynamic environment with a results oriented mindset.
- Experience in data profiling, complex sampling, statistical testing, and performing test of reliability on enterprise data.
- Data modeling experience and familiarity with all sorts of standard data models.
- Knowledge of working with business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, MicroStrategy).
- Strong problem solving with acute attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines and project plans.
- Ability to research, analyze, interpret, and produce accurate results within reasonable turnaround times with an iterative mindset with rapid prototyping designs.
- Above average capabilities with basic analysis tools of Microsoft Office suite.
